What sets me apart

Over my fourteen years of experience helping first responders, I've learned how hard it is for you to reach out to a clinician.  Maybe you've had unhelpful experiences with therapists in the past.  I'll do everything I can to honor your courage in reaching out, and to give you a good experience.  If this is your first time talking to a clinician, please know that I'll treat you like a human being, explain things in plain English, and hold what you say in the strictest confidence.

I'm nationally certified as a first responder clinician, and I've helped people from every branch of public safety with a wide range of issues.  Whatever brings you in the door, chances are I can help.

You can be yourself in therapy.  I'm good with the dark sense of humor, the salty language, and the unique view of the world that comes from staring into the abyss.  Your job is to show up and talk; I'll guide you through the rest.

Trauma

You're strong and resilient, but you also respond to countless events that have the potential to leave emotional scars.  If you have a memory you can't shake or an event that has left you shaken, the courageous choice is to open up to someone about it.  I can help by listening without judgment and by using proven techniques to help you recover.

Organizational Stress

Sometimes the call is coming from inside the house.  Despite public perceptions, you know all too well that your biggest source of stress may be the agency.  I'll give you a safe space to ventilate, but we'll also practice skills that will make you more resilient to the stress from above.

Work vs. Life

It's important to "gear up" and be fully present during your shift--but for your health, it's just as important to put the work mode away and "gear down" into your personal life once the shift is done.  I'll help you clarify the boundaries between work and life, both in the work you bring home and in "taking the uniform off" after shift.

Retirement

Whether you're thinking about retirement or you've already left the career, it's a huge life change.  Public safety is incredibly meaningful work, and it can be a real challenge to replace that sense of purpose and connection after retirement.  I can help you adjust, so that you can enjoy life after the career.
